Benjamin Keating ICWF 2024: Dallas

Benjamin KeatingFrom June 19 through June 24, 2024 the International Conducting Workshop and Festival will present ICWF 2024: Dallas, a new partnership with the Plano West High School Orchestra and Boosters, Ryan Ross, Orchestra Director, in Plano, TX (a suburb of Dallas). The workshop will focus on the music of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky and will be led again by Donald Schleicher (Northwestern University Bienen School of Music) and Farkhad Khudyev (University of Texas Austin Butler School of Music). They will be assisted by Benjamin Loeb (ICWF Artistic Director). Susan Dunn will lead Presence on Stage sessions, and Michael Sheppard will be the workshop pianist.

Benjamin will be one of not more than 20 full participants at this workshop. His project costs include the participation fee, travel and accommodations. All support to this project will be applied to his expenses. Additionally, as AEPMS is a registered 501(c)3, all individual donated support is deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Benjamin Keating is an American classical pianist from Champaign-Urbana, Illinois studying Piano Performance with an emphasis in Collaborative Piano with Dr. Catherine Kautsky at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music. Keating began piano studies at age 5; since then, he has become an active performer, devout collaborator, and a lifelong musician. At the piano, Keating performs a wide variety of the classical repertoire, with a focus on music written after the turn of the 20th century. He champions new music, exploring the works of living composers and the works of his colleagues. Keating has earned first-place awards with the Schubert Club and MTNA Wisconsin competitions, and recently won the Lawrence Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. Keating has engaged with the Mostly Modern Festival and with the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Italy and at Carnegie Hall. Keating’s ensemble experience ranges from musical theatre to church choirs to garage rock bands to Balinese gamelan orchestras. Keating also studies conducting and serves as a rehearsal pianist and conductor with the Lawrence University Opera Theatre. Keating thanks his family for their never-ending love and support.
